Patricio Fraile
Danish-Spanish composer Patricio Fraile has made Copenhagen his artistic home. His music is deeply influenced by his diverse musical upbringing, blending classical, ambient, and folk elements into a personal, heartfelt, and poetic voice.
Patricio’s musical journey began with a rich foundation of devotional music, thanks to his father’s role as a church organist. He transitioned from the violin to the viola at a young age. His exposure to Spanish and Latin American fusionist and singer-songwriters like Silvio Rodríguez and pop star Ana Belen during long family road trips to Spain in the 1990s further shaped his eclectic musical palette.
Patricio later pursued his passion academically at the University of Copenhagen, specializing in composition, orchestration, and film scoring, exploring compositions by Italian movie music maestros Nito Rota and Giovanni Fusco.
During his studies, he also received a grant that took him to Los Angeles and New York, where he was mentored by esteemed composer Carter Burwell and cinematic pioneer Walter Murch
Patricio's most recent work in film includes scoring the Danish feature film My Eternal Summer, directed by Sylvia Le Fanu. The film premiered at the 72nd San Sebastián International Film Festival and the 2024 BFI London Film Festival, winning the NDR (Norddeutscher Rundfunk) and Baltic Award at the Nordic Film Days in Lübeck. His soundtrack, set for release early 2025, enriches the film’s emotional core, weaving a sonic tapestry of beauty, vulnerability, and tenderness.
In late 2023, Patricio teamed up with fellow composer Emil Friis to release The Expected Sounds of Minor Music under FatCat Records' 130701 imprint. This contemporary classical album highlights their gift for creating evocative, multi-layered compositions that balance simplicity and complexity. The Expected Sounds Of Minor Music', invites listeners to explore the unexpected within the anticipated. The compositions reflect the duality of life, encompassing both the major and minor moments. After releasing the album, the duo introduced the single and video Morning – For Two Pianos on Piano Day, featuring reimagined piano versions of select pieces from the album.
Patricio has also contributed to numerous documentaries and TV series for Danish broadcasters DR and TV2, as well as Norwegian national broadcaster NRK.
Recently, Patricio co-composed a lullaby with Iranian composer Matin Peymani for Handling the Undead, directed by Thea Hvistendahl. Performed by Iranian and Berlin based artist Soho Rezanejad, the film premiered at Sundance 2024.
Patricio is currently working on a new acoustically performed ambient album titled Generous Clouds. It will be both a full-length release and a concert experience, featuring a new ‘mixed’ ensemble.
