ABOUT 130701

FatCat’s 130701 has played a pioneering role in the development of today’s vibrant modern-classical landscape. No Ripcord wrote back in 2009, “130701 has released some of the most important records of the last decade and single-handedly defined the post-classical genre.”

Originally established as an outlet for Montreal-based collective Set Fire To Flames,  the imprint was ahead of the curve, becoming what Drowned In Sound called “something of a blueprint outlet for instrumental based musicians worldwide whose creations don’t quite fit stately into any genre or roster.”

The label quickly grew to cultivate a now hugely influential stable of artists operating at the forefront of the modern classical genre, having introduced some of the most now recognizable names in the post-classical field including the likes of Max Richter and Hauschka, as well as once being home to Dustin O’Halloran, Sylvain Chauveau, and the late Golden Globe winner / Oscar nominee Jóhann Jóhannsson.

Ever evolving, 130701 is now home to an exciting new generation of dynamic artists including Shida Shahabi, Clarice Jensen, Keeley Forsyth, Ava Rasti, Dmitry Evgrafov, Emil Friis, Patricio Fraile, and Rikuto Fujimoto. In 2025, the label will unveil releases from a few more artists who have recently joined its growing roster.
